UNKNOWN TRUTHS....
Do you know why we Tamilians celebrate Festivals on the FIRST DAY of these 4 Months on the Tamil Calender?
1st of CHITHRA(சித்திரை 1);
1st of AADI(ஆடி 1);
1st of AYPASSI(ஐப்பசி 1);
1st of THAI(தை 1);
Do you know the Significance of these Days?
Do you think it's just a Tradition handed down to us or there MUST be some Scientific Reason behind the same?
OK. Let's look at the Science behind them all!
We have been taught in Schools by our Macaulay's System of Englishman's Education that the SUN RISES IN THE EAST and we have been following them blindly for a few hundred years. We THINK that the Sun RISES in the EAST.....
Well, what's wrong with this is the question that will spring into your minds.....
NO! The Sun doesn't 'always' RISE in the EXACT EAST. Only on a PARTICULAR DAY it rises at the EXACT EAST and thereafter it moves little by little towards the NORTH EAST and at an EXTREME POINT it starts moving SOUTH again.
The Sun's JOURNEY from Exact East to NE, SE and back to its starting point takes 'exactly' ONE YEAR!
You may wonder what is the relationship between the Sun's MOVEMENT from E to NE, SE and back to E and the Tamil Civilization? Or it's relationship with the Tamil Calender or atleast with the Months mentioned above?
Just hold on, I will explain it's signicance to you so that you'll understand the Greatness of our Ancient Ancestors.....
1) The DAY the Sun starts from "exact" EAST is the 1st Day of the Tamil Month of CHITHRA (சித்திரை 1) - called as EQUINOX in Scientific parlance! Its celebrated as TAMIL NEW YEAR DAY!
2) The EXTREME NE POINT falls on the 1st Day of the Tamil Month of AADI (ஆடி 1). This day is termed Scientifically as SOLSTICE. Its celebrated as AADI-PERUKKU Festival (ஆடிபெருக்கு);
3) The Day the Sun reaches the EXTREME SE POINT falls on the 1st Day of the Tamil Month of THAI(தை 1). This day is also Scientifically termed as SOLSTICE and is celebrated as the Harvest Festival PONGAL!
4) The Day the Sun returns back to its Original "exact" EAST POINT once again falls on the 1st Day of the Tamil Month of AYPASSI (ஐப்பசி 1). This Day is Scientifically termed as the EQUINOX and on this Day our Ancients started the practice of celebrating the most popular of all our Festivals - The FESTIVAL OF LIGHT or DEEPAVALI!
Our Ancestors fully understood the Movement of the Sun with respect to our Earth without even possessing any Scientific Equipments like the Bubble Telescope or Super Computers etc., and from "mere" OBSERVATION, noted the Climatic Changes that occur due to these Solar and Earthly Movements, labelled them as FESTIVALS and 'celebrated' them so that their significance could be grasped and understood even by the Common Man!
Amazing isn't it !?!
That's the Greatness of our Indian Civilization 😇
